The Border Security Force (BSF) on Saturday morning shot down an arms-laden Pakistan drone along the International Border (IB) in Rathua village of Hiranagar sector, Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir.
The incident took place at 5:15 am.
According to the sources, the six-copter drone was carrying around five to six-kg arms consignment, which was to be delivered in a border village in the Hiranagar sector.
Sources said the patrolling party of the 19 Battalion of the BSF, in the vicinity of Border out Post (BoP) Pansar area, spotted a drone flying in Rathua area.
“The alert BSF personnel fired eight to nine rounds and shot it down in the field of farmer Parshotam Lal,” sources said, adding that the BSF officials took the possession of the drone and brought the incident into the notice of senior officers.
When contacted, the Inspector General of the BSF Jammu Frontier, NS Jamwal, said: “The drone was launched from Pakistan side and the arms are apparently to be delivered to the recipients who might be waiting in villages or settlements along the border. It is a big achievement for the BSF here because the people on the other side (Pakistan forces) adopt the similar modus operandi in Punjab also.”
Giving more details, the Inspector General said: “The alert jawans of the BSF shot down the drone inside the Indian territory. We have recovered one M4 US-made semi-automatic rifle, 60 rounds in it, two magazines and seven M67 grenades. Four batteries have also been recovered.”
“The investigation has been started as to whom the consignment was to be delivered to,” the IG said.
