PAKISTAN police arrested a man over the killing of London law graduate Mayra Zulfiqar, more than a month after she was found shot dead in a Lahore apartment.

Zahir Jadoon is one of the two men named as suspects by Zulfiqar’s uncle.

A second man, who was not arrested, was cooperating with the police investigation, according to media reports.

Zulfiqar, 25, who visited Pakistan for a wedding but could not return to London because of travel restrictions, was found in a pool of blood on May 3 with gunshot injuries.

She was believed to be in a relationship with Jadoon who she had accused of threatening her at gunpoint. She also sought police protection.

Her uncle Mohammed Nazeer alleged in legal documents that Jadoon and another man threatened her after she rejected their marriage proposals. Jadoon’s lawyer, however, denied his client was involved in the killing.

Jadoon’s brother and a driver had previously been detained, a BBC News report said.

Police also initially suspected the role of a gunman in the murder case.

Last month, Zulfiqar’s father appealed to Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan and activist Malala Yousafzai to help him secure justice for his daughter.
