Britain’s new Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak said that he was honoured to be appointed as the new finance minister. He showered praises on Sajid Javid, who resigned on Thursday (13) from the post of the Chancellor of the Exchequer.

“My predecessor and good friend Saj did a fantastic job in his time at the Treasury. He was a pleasure to work with and I hope to be able to build on his great work going forward,” Rishi wrote on Twitter.

Sajid Javid’s resignation happened when prime minister Boris Johnson reportedly wanted him to sack his team of advisers but he refused.

Before assuming the office of the finance minister, Rishi Sunak was chief secretary to the Treasury, number two in the finance ministry.

Rishi, Member of Parliament for Richmond (Yorks), took to Twitter to laud the work of his ex-boss.

Sajid Javid’s resigned came just weeks after Brexit and a month before he was due to deliver the government’s annual budget.

Javid entered into politics, serving as interior minister before replacing Philip Hammond as chancellor of the exchequer in July 2019.

Hammond locked horns with Johnson’s predecessor Theresa May over her Brexit strategy.
