Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) is all set to modernize the motels, hotels and tourist information centers under it in a bid to promote tourism in the country.

PTDC managing Director Abdul Ghafoor said on Monday the department would provide skill development training to students from the College of Tourism and Hotel Management. Seminars related to tourism will be also offered in private schools, colleges and universities, he said.

Other initiatives taken to promote tourism in Pakistan include providing discount packages, setting up tourist information counters at all international airports in the country, and luring multinational companies with attractive offers.

According to a new report, tourists to Pakistan has increased since the launch of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, which is a part of China’s One Belt and One Road Initiative. In the past five years alone, more than 39,000 Chinese have visited Pakistan and more than 92,204 visas were issued by the government of Pakistan to foreign nationals, Thenews.com.pk reported.

Pakistan’s initiatives to modernize its tourism facilities come just days after Turkey’s newly appointed Counsel General in Karachi, Tolga Ucak, urged the government to increase the number of quality hotels bring down hotel fares in the country.

“Pakistan must bring down hotel fares in the country in order to make it economical for tourists coming to the country. It would definitely increase tourism,” Ucak said.
